Pyritized Ammonite

These ammonites have been completely replaced by pyrite.  The ammonite has been cut and polished to reveal open chambers filled with drusy pyrite.  These specimens are from Russia (the only place in the world they are found).

ID# 501-76 Pyritized Ammonite—  The fine detail of the ammonite is very well preserved in pyrite, and the interior chambers are filled with drusy pyrite.  The back of the specimen is quite iridescent.
